DSEAR & ATEX Training – Awareness

This training is for personnel working Hazardous Areas.

DSEAR and ATEX places requirements on areas where potentially explosive atmospheres may exist.

Duty holders are require to ensure that anyone working in these areas understand the hazards and risks that could be present and the ways in which they are controlled.

The training can be held onsite at or at training centre, delegates must be able to understand and communicate the learning objectives effectively.

If a site visit to a facility with hazardous areas is required delegates will need to have the appropriate PPE.

WHO

DSEAR Awareness -Individuals working on or near DSEAR classified areas.

DSEAR for Managers – Those managing work in potential flammable atmospheres.

DSEAR for Project Engineers – Those responsible for design and managing projects in or near potentially flammable atmospheres.

WHAT

Learning objectives

  • Explain the key legislative requirements related to DSEAR and ATEX
  • Identify responsibilities
  • Define a Hazardous Area
  • Identify dangerous substances
  • Explain the requirements for fire and explosion
  • Define key terms associated with Hazardous Areas
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of Hazardous Area Plan interpretation.
  • Identify locations where Hazardous Areas may exist
  • Identify the hazards and risks associated with Hazardous Areas
  • Identify the common types of Ex rated equipment and requirements for maintenance.
  • Identify items of contraband.
  • Identify competency requirements under Thames Water rules
  • Identify and locate key compliance documentation
  • Outline the considerations when undertaking work in Hazardous Areas
  • Identify what guidance is available and where it can be found.

Persons who control work in Hazardous Areas are required to be able to understand the hazards and risks associated with these areas. They need to be able to follow SSOW’s with a level of understanding of the common protection concepts applied to equipment and the way in which Hazardous Areas are identified and classified.
